Mountain Lions Sign Brodie, MVP of Class 4A State Tournament

University of Colorado at Colorado Springs volleyball coach Jessica Wood announced Wednesday the signing of Cheyenne Mountain High School senior Laura Brodie to a national letter of intent.

“We're really excited about Laura,” said Wood."œShe's a great player and she fits in really well with the team. She's definitely the kind of player we're looking for.”

Brodie led the Indians to their first Colorado Class 4A state title in 2008, recording 29 kills and 36 digs in the final three matches of the state tournament. For her effort, she was named the tournament's MVP and the Gazette's athlete of the week.

Most recently, she played in the Class 4A Colorado Coaches of Girls Sports All-State Game.

For the season, Brodie has 200 kills, 253 digs and 90 blocks. That came on the heels of her tremendous junior season, during which she had 212 kills, 301 digs and 74 blocks. As a sophomore, Brodie recorded 140 kills and 123 digs.

The middle blocker played two seasons of high school volleyball with her sister, Andrea Brodie, who will be a junior for UCCS next season. Laura Brodie also has played with other Mountain Lions at the club level. Wood sees that history as a distinct benefit.

“She has played with a couple of the players on our team already and definitely has that connection on the court with them,” said Wood.

Brodie had verbally committed to playing for the Mountain Lions earlier this autumn, but NCAA rules prohibit schools from announcing the status of recruits until a formal letter of intent is signed.
