Stewart named second-team all academic, two others recognized
University of Colorado at Colorado Springs senior setter Jessica Stewart was named Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference volleyball second team, the conference announced Wednesday.
Stewart, a History major with a 3.62 cumulative GPA, leads the Mountain Lions with 634 assists while also accumulating 182 digs, 24 blocks and 25 kills. As setter, the UCCS offense runs through her.
Stewart was also named RMAC all-academic as a sophomore and as a junior.
Teammates Lauren Orth and Cassey Santucci were named to the RMAC academic honor roll.
Since first-year transfers and freshmen are not eligible, UCCS had only four players on its young roster that could possibly qualify for the honor. Having three of those four achieve the requisite 3.20 GPA is a testament to the school's"˜academics-first'philosophy.
