UCCS ends loss streak
CHADRON, NEB.- The University of Colorado at Colorado Springs ends its four game losing streak with a 3-0 win over Chadron State Saturday evening at Armstrong Gymnasium.
Molly Crockett led the Mountain Lions with 11 kills and also had 11 digs. Karina Miastkowska added five kills and had two aces and two blocks. While Jessica Stewart led the offense with 20 assists and Kelsey Pobar led the defense with 16 digs.
Crockett dominated the first set with seven of her team's 14 kills to win put the first set away 25-16.
In the second set Crockett earned her remaining four kills and Kim Boogard had a team high three blocks on the defensive end to help the Mountain Lions coast to a 25-12 win.
The Eagles came back fighting in the third set to lead the Mountain Lions. But with 10 errors by Chadron State and a kill by Stewart, UCCS was able to come back to tie the set 20-20. Three more errors by Chadron State, an ace by Stewart, and a kill by Boogaard would end the set at 25-22.
The losing streak matched UCCS' longest losing streak of 2007, which occurred from Aug. 25-27. All four losses of the 2008 streak were in RMAC play, making it the longest RMAC losing streak since 2004, when the Mountain Lions lost six straight from Oct. 9-24.
The Eagles (2-14, 0-6 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference) were led by Lindsey Heisler with nine kills and Elizabeth Most with eight.
With the win UCCS is now 7-8 overall and 2-4 in the RMAC.
