Broerman honored by CSFD for helping save girl's life
COLORADO SPRINGS - University of Colorado at Colorado Springs volleyball player Sarah Broerman was among those honored by the Colorado Springs Fire Department at its annual awards banquet Friday at the Crowne Plaza Hotel's Grand Ballroom.
While Broerman was working at a YMCA volleyball camp this past summer, a nine-year old girl collapsed and went into cardiac arrest. Broerman administered CPR and, with the help of two others, utilized a defibrillator to resuscitate the girl until CSFD arrived on scene.
Their quick and decisive action saved the girl's life.
"I'm just happy the little girl is alive," said Broerman. "That's the real award."
CSFD's annual awards banquet honored firefighters, civilian personnel, and members of the community for acts of heroism, service, and response during the past year.
Broerman will be entering her senior season as a member of the Mountain Lions' volleyball team this coming fall.
