Stewart, Akers named to all-tournament team
Jessica Stewart and Brooke Akers were named to the 2006 AmeriSuites/Mountain Lion Invitational all-tournament team Saturday.
Stewart had a tournament-high 177 assists for the Mountain Lions, who finished the tournament with a 2-2 record. Akers, a junior transfer from the U.S. Air Force Academy, added 58 kills, a .243 hitting percentage and 13 blocks â€" all team highs.
Also receiving votes for UCCS were Andrea Weedman, Diane Sheldon, Caroline Ottino and Diane Sheldon.
Fort Lewisâ€TM Nicole Schwab was named the most valuable player after posting a tournament-best 85 kills and hitting a spectacular .412..
Teammate Adrianne Dettler joined Schwab on the all-tournament team as the Skyhawks also took the team title with a 5-0 record.
The all-tournament team was chosen through a vote of the participating coaches, who were not allowed to vote for players on their own team.
