Regis serves Lions a loss
A strong service game helped lead the Regis Rangers to a 3-0 victory over the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs Mountain Lions Saturday at the Lions' Den.
In addition to 10 service aces, Regis (7-11, 5-4 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference) prevented CU-Colorado Springs from mounting an effective attack because accurate serves neutralized the Mountain Lions' passing game.
CU-Colorado Springs (3-14, 1-7 RMAC) managed only a .048 hitting percentage for the match. Linnlee Hansen led the Mountain Lions in both kills (nine) and hitting percentage (.300).
LaVanda Mireles led the Rangers in service aces with five and also keyed the team's play at the net. Mireles was a factor in seven of the Rangers' 15 blocks, getting one solo block and six block assists.
Holly Yamada had 10 kills and 16 digs for Regis, both match highs. Mireles and Julianna Bayley each added seven kills.
The loss was the seventh straight and 11th in the past 12 matches for CU-Colorado Springs. It was only the third time in those 11 losses that the Mountain Lions failed to win at least one game.
