4x4 Provisionally Qualifies in New Mexico
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - The University of Colorado Colorado Springs 4x400-meter relay team ran an NCAA provisional qualifying mark to lead a group of Mountain Lions at the New Mexico Classic on Friday and Saturday. Jonathan Wright, the leadoff runner on the relay, also came within three-hundredths of a second of a provisional time in the open 400-meter run.
Wright, Ryan Buchanan, Marc Hensley and Travis Whitman were one of two NCAA Division II relay teams in a field with three Big 12 teams and one from the Mountain West. UCCS has the second-fastest time in the conference this season and a time that ranks in the top 25 of NCAA Division II with an altitude and track adjusted time of 3 minutes, 20.99 seconds.
Wright reclaimed his spot of the conference's fastest 400-meter time this season with an adjusted time of 49.82 seconds. He was the only Division II sprinter in the field and finished third in his heat and No. 10 overall.
Up Next: The Mountain Lions will be back at Adams State next weekend for the Adams State Qualifier on Feb. 15.
