TOWSON, Md. - University of Colorado Colorado Springs senior pole vaulter Alex Colvin earned Capital One Division II Academic All-America Third Team honors for women's cross country and track and field, announced this morning by the College Sports Information Directors of America. Colvin is the first Mountain Lion to earn a spot on the Academic All-America track and field teams in program history.

Colvin is the second Mountain Lion to earn an Academic All-America honor in the 2012-13 academic year, after Mash Shaswar's selection to the men's soccer third team. She is the fifth UCCS student-athlete in school history to earn Academic All-America honors.

Colvin finished No. 10 in the pole vault at the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championships in May. She was the RMAC runner-up at the outdoor track championships and is a two-time indoor conference champion. Colvin is second in UCCS records in both the indoor and outdoor pole vault and was a U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association All-Region athlete for the 2013 indoor season.

Colvin graduated this spring with a degree in human biology. She was a member of the UCCS President's List last fall and a member of the Dean's List in her final spring semester. Colvin was a member of the RMAC All-Academic First Team for the outdoor season and was the first Mountain Lion to earn Academic All-District in women's cross country and track and field since 2004-05.

The Capital Once Academic All-America program was established in 1952 by CoSIDA to recognize the best student-athletes on the field of competition and in the classroom. The All-America teams were selected by the CoSIDA Academic All-America National Committee after the nominees earned all-district first team honors by the Sports Information Directors in that district. Student-athletes needed a 3.30 grade point average, be at least a sophomore in athletic eligibility and be at the current institution for at least two semesters to qualify.
