Colvin Earns Academic All-District Selection
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - University of Colorado Colorado Springs national qualifier Alex Colvin earned a spot on the 20-1213 Capital One Academic All-District Women's Cross Country / Track and Field First Team announced this morning by the College Sports Information Directors of America. She will advance for consideration for the Academic All-America Teams.
The Sports Information Directors in the South Central Region voted on the 10 first-team student-athletes. To qualify, athletes needed at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average and have completed at least two semesters at the current institution. The Academic All-America teams will be selected by the CoSIDA Board of Directors and the CoSIDA Academic All-America committee and will be announced June 26.
Colvin finished No. 10 in the pole vault at the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championships last week. She was the RMAC runner-up at the outdoor track championships and is a two-time conference indoor champion. Colvin is second in UCCS records for both the indoor and outdoor pole vault.
Colvin has a 3.86 grade point average in human biology. She was a member of the UCCS President's List in fall 2012 with a 4.00 semester GPA and was on the RMAC All-Academic First Team for the outdoor season. Colvin is the first Mountain Lion to earn Academic All-District honors since Ashley Birger in 2004-05.
The CoSIDA Academic All-America program was established in 1952 to recognize the best academic and athletic student-athletes. UCCS has had four student-athletes in school history earn a spot on an Academic All-America team, including Mash Shaswar in men's soccer in fall 2012.
