PUEBLO, Colo. - Three Mountain Lions took on the best student-athletes in Division II in the pole vault, 1,500-meter run and 10,000-meter run as the University of Colorado Colorado Springs completed the first day of the 2013 NCAA Division II Women's Outdoor Track and Field National Championships at Colorado State-Pueblo.

Alex Colvin finished in a tie for No. 10 in the pole vault with 12 feet, 1 ½ inches on her first attempt this afternoon. It was her highest national finish in her second national championship appearance. Colvin finishes her career second in UCCS records with 12-4 ¾ at the SAC Conference Challenge earlier this season.

Megan Burrell placed seventh in the first heat of the 1,500-meter run and No. 16 overall with an unadjusted time of 4 minutes, 42.48 seconds. The altitude-adjusted time of 4:36.80 came just more than five seconds short of her program record time of 4:31.65 from the Mines Last Chance Meet on May 12. She finishes the 2012-13 academic year as a cross country All-American and with four UCCS records between the indoor and outdoor track and field seasons.

Alyssa Andrews maintained a spot in the lead pack of runners through the first 10 minutes of the 10,000-meter run before the field began to spread out. She finished No. 14 with 38:22.35. Andrews ran the third-fastest time in UCCS history to qualify for the national championships with 35:56.90 at the Mt. SAC Relays in April.

Tonight's performances will end the season for the UCCS women's outdoor track and field team. The Mountain Lions finished with their most national qualifiers for the outdoor national championships since 2005.
