COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The University of Colorado Colorado Springs will have three student-athletes in action when the first day of the 2013 NCAA Division II Women's Outdoor Track & Field Championships begin Thursday afternoon at CSU-Pueblo. The Mountain Lions will have athletes in the pole vault, 1,500-meter run and 10,000-meter run.

Alex Colvin will open competition at 2 p.m., in the pole vault, as one of 21 vaulters in the field. She qualified with a vault of 12-4 ¾ from the SAC Conference Challenge in April, and will likely begin vaulting early in the competition. The opening height is set at 12-1 ½.

Colvin is making her second appearance at the outdoor national championships. She was the runner-up at the RMAC championships earlier this month and is second in UCCS records for both the indoor and outdoor pole vault.

UCCS record-holder Megan Burrell will compete in the preliminaries of the 1,500-meter run at 5:10 p.m. She will be in the first of two heats and one of the first athletes on the track in the championships. Burrell ran her qualifying time 10 days ago at Colorado Mines with 4:31.67.

Burrell will need to finish in the top four of the 11-runner heat, or have one of the next four fastest times between the two heats, to advance to Saturday's final. She is one of five RMAC runners who will be competing for the 12 spots in the final.

Alyssa Andrews will wrap up the day with the finals of the 10,000-meter run at 8:10 p.m. She has the third-fastest time in UCCS history with 35:56.90 from the Mt. SAC Relays and has the fastest time for a Mountain Lion since All-American Shannon Payne set the record in 2008. Andrews will be joined by three other athletes from RMAC teams.

The top eight athletes in each event in the finals earn All-America honors and receive points for the team standings.

Live results will be available throughout the day for each event through PT Timing. Live video will begin at the start of the track events through the NCAA.
