Burrell Lowers UCCS Record in 1,500-Meter Run

GOLDEN, Colo. - Megan Burrell improved on her program record in the 1,500-meter run and lowered her NCAA provisional time to lead the University of Colorado Colorado Springs in the Colorado Mines Mother's Day Last Chance Meet today at the Stermole Track and Field Complex. The competition marked the last chance for the Mountain Lions to record a qualifying mark for the national championships later this month in Pueblo, Colo.'

Burrell ran an unadjusted time of 4:39.16 to finish as the top collegiate runner and second overall. Her time adjusts to a sea level time of 4:31.67 and No. 24 in the Division II national performance lists. Burrell lowered her adjusted time by nearly four-tenths of a second.

Alexa Urban won the 800-meter run and defeated a former 11-time Division II All-American by more than two seconds with 2:17.24. Amber McAfee finished third overall and second among collegiate athletes with 2:20.08.

Alex Colvin cleared a provisional height in the pole vault for the eighth time this season with 11 feet, 6 ¼ inches to win the event today by six inches. She is ranked No. 21 in the national performance lists with a season-best 12-4 ¾ on April 20.

Declarations for the Division II national championships will close at 11 a.m. MDT on Monday. The championship fields will be released by the selection committee no later than 10 a.m. MDT on Tuesday at NCAA.com.
