Colvin Finishes Second in Pole Vault at Boulder
BOULDER, Colo. - Alex Colvin cleared 10 feet, 11 ¾ inches on her second attempt of the day and finished second in the pole vault to lead the University of Colorado Colorado Springs at the Jerry Quiller Classic today at Potts Field at the University of Colorado Boulder. The meet marked the opening meet of the season for the Mountain Lion outdoor track and field team.
Colvin passed on the first two heights of 10-0 and 10-6, and was guaranteed to finish in the top two after she cleared 10-11 ¾. She and Air Force's Bizzy Mellado opted to both pass on 11-3 ¾, and Colvin was stopped at the next height of 11-7 ¾. She is ranked No. 16 in the Division II performance lists in the opening weekend.
Briana Alley and Michael Mansfield finished third and fourth, respectively, for the Mountain Lions in the second heat of the 400-meter dash. Alley ran an outdoor best of one minute, 4.08 seconds, while Mansfield opened her outdoor career with 1:05.52. Mansfield also ran 28.54 in the 200-meter dash later in the day.
UCCS is scheduled to be back on the track next weekend in the Colorado State-Pueblo Open on March 22-23 at the Neta and Eddie DeRose ThunderBowl.
