Distance Races Open Championships for Mountain Lions
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The University of Colorado Colorado Springs will have three athletes competing in four events to open the 2013 RMAC Track and Field Championships on Monday at the Stermole Track and Field Complex at Colorado Mines. The first event with a Mountain Lion will be the first track event of the day at 9 a.m.
Luke Dakin is one of 12 runners in the 10,000-meter run in the morning, and it will be his first 10,000-meter run in his track and field career. Dakin ran the 10K during the cross country season and ran 31.30.5 at the national championships in Joplin last November. Only three of the 12 runners have turned in a time during the outdoor season before the championships.
Sam Feldotto will follow in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at 10:40 a.m., with a seed time of 9:34.44 from the Front Range Invitational held at Colorado Mines in March. He has the 10th-fastest seed time in the 15-runner field and is just short of the fifth-fastest time in UCCS history.
Chris Myers will compete in the preliminaries of the 100-meter and 200-meter dashes in the afternoon. He will compete in the first heats of both events, with the 100 dash at 3 p.m., and the 200 dash at 4 p.m. Myers ran a career-best time in the 200-meter dash just more than a week against in the Pre-Conference Meet, and ran the first 100-meter dash of his collegiate outdoor career in the same meet.
Fans can follow the action with live results from the timing contractor, TRXC Timing. Updates will also be available throughout the day at the UCCS Athletics Twitter account @GoMountainLions.
