Martell, Sandoval Post Season-Best Times in 5K at Long Beach State
NORWALK, Calif. - Angie Martell and Veronica Sandoval both lowered their season-best times in the 5,000-meter run as the University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's track and field team closed out a busy week at the Beach Invitational today, hosted by Long Beach State at Cerritos College.
Martell finished No. 11 in the invitational section with 17 minutes, 40.16 seconds to lower her best time of the season by more than 23 seconds. Sandoval finished in 18:23.19 to lower her 5,000-meter time this season by more than five seconds.
Former UCCS All-American Shannon Payne won the same heat in 16:55.36 as a member of the Boulder Running Company adidas team.
Alexa Urban lowered her season-best time in the 1,500-meter run with 4:49.71, and Amber McAfee ran her first 1,500-meter run of the season with 4:52.54.
The Mountain Lions will compete in one more weekend of events before the RMAC Championships in May. UCCS will send student-athletes to the Colorado Mines Pre-Conference Meet in Golden, Colo.
