Burrell Sets UCCS 5K Record in Provisional Time
WALNUT, Calif. - University of Colorado Colorado Springs senior Megan Burrell set her second program record in as many weekends with a provisional qualifying time of 17 minutes, 5.44 seconds in the 5,000-meter run at the 55th Mt. SAC Relays late tonight.
Burrell broke the record of 17:11.28 set in 2006 by Shannon Payne. Burell also broke the UCCS 1,500-meter record last weekend at the Colorado Invitational to be named the RMAC Female Track Athlete of the Week.
Burrell finished sixth in her heat among Division II runners and unofficially stands No. 18 in the national performance lists. She is unofficially fifth among RMAC runners, based on times already run this season and at the Mt. SAC Relays.
The Mountain Lions will wrap up the weekend tomorrow at the Beach Invitational hosted by Long Beach State.
