Burrell Shatters 1,500 Meter Record
BOULDER, Colo. - Megan Burrell shattered the University of Colorado Colorado Springs 1,500-meter run record to lead the Mountain Lions at the Colorado Invitational today at CU-Boulder. Burrell's adjusted time of 4:33.12 ranks fourth in the RMAC performance lists after today.
Burrell provisionally qualified for the national championships and ranks No. 16 in the Division II performance lists. She broke the record of 4:42.55 set by Ashley Birger in 2006.
Jessica Todd improved on her personal best in the 200-meter dash with 26.55 seconds to finish fifth overall and improve to fourth in the UCCS records. Todd finished second in her heat and lowered her personal best by .12 seconds. She was one of four RMAC sprinters in the top six of the overall results.
Todd also led the Mountain Lions in the 400-meter dash and has the seventh-fastest time with an adjusted 1:00.20. Amber McAfee also finished with a personal best with 1:00.74 and placed one spot behind Todd in their heat.
The Mountain Lions will split squads next week between meets in California and in Colorado. UCCS student-athletes will compete in the 55th Mt. SAC Relays April 18-20, the Bryan Clay Invitational April 19-20 and the Beach Invitational April 19-20. The Mountain Lions will also send athletes to the Western State Invitational April 19-20 in Gunnison, Colo.
