BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's track and field team will be in action in two events as the first full day of the 2013 NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field Championships begins on Friday at the CrossPlex Complex in Birmingham, Ala. The Mountain Lions will compete in the preliminaries of the mile run and the finals of the distance medley relay.

Megan Burrell will compete in the first of two heats in the mile run at 3:30 p.m. MST. If she finishes in the top three of her heat or finishes with one of the next three fastest times between the two heats, she will advance to Saturday's final. Burrell will be one of three RMAC runners in her heat, along with Colorado Mines' Hannah Schuster and Western State's  Julie Pack.

Burrell earned all-region honors earlier this season and set the UCCS record in the 3,000-meter run at the Joe Davies Open on Feb. 16. The finals on Saturday are scheduled at 3:25 p.m. MST.

Burrell will also compete later in the night as the anchor leg for the Mountain Lion distance medley relay team at 6:30 p.m. MST. Melanie Diep, Jessica Todd and Alexa Urban will run the first three legs, respectively. The team holds the program record set at the Joe Davies Open and enters the national championships with the No. 11 fastest time.

Adams State and Metro State will both join the Mountain Lions in the event on Friday night. The top eight teams will earn All-America honors from the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.

Fans can follow the events with live video streaming from the NCAA, and through live results through PT Timing.
