UCCS Women to Compete in Two Events at National Championships

INDIANAPOLIS  - The University of Colorado Colorado Springs will be represented in two events by four student-athletes at the 2013 NCAA Division II Indoor Track and Field Championships on March 8-9 at the CrossPlex Complex in Birmingham, Ala. The track championships will be a part of the larger NCAA Division II National Championships Festival in Birmingham during the week.

Megan Burrell will compete in preliminaries of the mile run on March 8 at 3:30 p.m. MST along with 16 other runners. She will be one of four runners from the RMAC in the mile and will be running for a spot in the finals on March 9 at 3:15 p.m. MST.

Burrell will join Melanie Diep, Jessica Todd and Alexa Urban in the distance medley relay on Friday night at 6:30 p.m. MST. The Mountain Lions are one of 14 teams to reach the national championships and one of three from the RMAC. UCCS is ranked No. 11 among the qualifiers with a time of 11:51.10.

The NCAA Division II Indoor Track and Field Championships will be conducted along with the national championships in swimming and wrestling for the second winter championships festival. The City of Birmingham and the Gulf South Conference will co-host the championships and the more than 1,100 student-athletes scheduled to compete.
