Colvin Repeats at RMAC Pole Vault Champion
SPEARFISH, S.D. - Alex Colvin repeated as the champion in the indoor pole vault to lead the University of Colorado Colorado Springs on the final day of the 2013 RMAC Indoor Track & Field Championships today at Black Hills State University. The Mountain Lions accumulated 30 points to finish seventh in the team standings.
Colvin cleared 11 feet, 10 ½ inches to win the championship by a four-inch margin. The Mountain Lions have won the indoor pole vault for three straight seasons, starting with Lauren Graham's title in 2011.
Alexa Urban earned Second Team All-RMAC honors in the 800-meter run with a third-place finish in 2 minutes and 20.02 seconds. Melanie Diep finished one spot out of earning all-conference honors in the event, but scored two more points for the Mountain Lions with her seventh-place time of 2:22.25. UCCS was on the only team with three runners in the top nine with Amber McAfee's time of 2:23.61.
The Mountain Lions will await the decision of the NCAA Division II Track and Field Committee early next week on who will advance to the national championships on March 8-9. The meet will take place at the CrossPlex Complex in Birmingham, Ala., as part of the NCAA Division II Winter Championships Festival.
