GOLDEN, Colo. - Megan Burrell broke the University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's track and field record for the indoor 3,000-meter run and improved on her provisional qualifying time for the 2013 national championships to lead the Mountain Lions at the Joe Davies Open this afternoon at the Colorado School of Mines. Veronica Sandoval also finished with a qualifying time in the event.

Burrell ran an unadjusted time of 10 minutes and 21.63 seconds to win by a nearly two-second margin against Metro State's Janelle Lincks. The official altitude and track size adjustments will be calculated when the results are processed by the Track and Field Results Reporting System, but the time should calculate near the 9:55 mark and put her approximately seventh in the RMAC performance lists.

Sandoval finished third overall in 10:27.88, which will adjust down to the 10-minute mark and eighth in the conference performance lists.

Jessica Todd ran an indoor-best 1:01.62 to finish second in the 400-meter dash and improved to No. 12 in the RMAC this season. Briana Alley improved on her personal best by nearly three-tenths of a second and her season best by eight-tenths of a second with 1:03.51.

Todd also finished third in the 200-meter dash with a personal best 27.64 and entered the top 20 of the conference times. Alley finished seventh in 28.50 seconds in her first 200-meter dash of the season.

Alex Colvin finished tied for the best performance by a Division II student-athlete and for second overall with 11 feet, 2 ½ inches in the pole vault this morning. She didn't improve on her qualifying height, but still has the top mark in the RMAC season.

Up Next: UCCS travels to Spearfish, S.D., next weekend for the 2013 RMAC Indoor Track and Field Championships. The championships will begin on the morning of Feb. 22 at the Young Center.
