Mountain Lions No. 10 in Latest Regional Index
NEW ORLEANS - After season bests from three Mountain Lions that moved them into the top eight of the regional performance lists, the University of Colorado Colorado Springs improved three spots to No. 10 in the latest U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association South Central Regional Team Index released today. UCCS made the biggest jump of any team in the region after last Saturday's Colorado Mines Twilight Collegiate Open.
The distance medley relay team of Melanie Diep, Jessica Todd, Alexa Urban and Megan Burrell ran an altitude and track-adjusted time of 11 minutes and 51.10 seconds to provisionally qualify for the national championships. The time ranks second in the region and eighth in the nation, while the unadjusted time of 12:15.41 broke the program record set in 2005.
Diep improved on her 800-meter run time with 2:21.31, which adjusts down to 2:18.00 to rank fifth in the conference and seventh in the region. Burrell also improved on her mile time with an adjusted 5:00.34 to provisionally qualify for the national championships.
Alex Colvin continues to lead the region with 11 feet, 11 ¾ inches and is tied for No. 22 in the national performance lists. Alex Urban didn't improve on her 800-meter run time over the weekend, but is ranked second in the conference, fourth in the region and No. 25 in the nation with an adjusted time of 2:15.62.
UCCS will be back in action this weekend at the Joe Davis Open at Colorado Mines on Saturday. It will be the fine tune-up for the Mountain Lions before the RMAC Indoor Track & Field Championships at Black Hills State Feb. 22-23.
