By Jared Verner published February 9, 2013

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - A mix of University of Colorado Colorado Springs field, sprint and distance student-athletes will be competing today when the second day of the Colorado Mines Twilight Collegiate Open takes place at Steinhauer Fieldhouse. The first of the 11 Mountain Lions to compete will start at 10 a.m.

Alex Colvin will begin the day in the pole vault, after she improved on her height last weekend at the New Mexico Classic. She cleared 11 feet, 11 ¾ inches and has the best mark in the RMAC by four inches, and ranks No. 20 in the national performance lists. Colvin will be one of nine vaulters in the field today and one of four from the RMAC.

Briana Alley competes for the first time since mid-January, and will be sprinting in the preliminaries of the 60-meter dash at 11:15 a.m. She will also run in the 200-meter dash at 1:25 p.m., along with Michaela Mansfield, and the duo will join Jessica Todd and Alexa Urban in the 400-meter dash at 12:25 p.m.

Urban, the UCCS record holder in the 600-yard run from the Potts Invitational earlier this year, will also run the second leg of the 4x400-meter relay at 2:25 p.m. Todd is scheduled to run the leadoff leg, with Amber McAfee as the third leg and Melanie Diep as the anchor. The Mountain Lions will compete in the first of three heats.

Veronica Sandoval and Megan Burrell will open the distance events for UCCS at 11:30 a.m. in the mile run. Sandoval ranks No. 14 in the conference performance lists from a time on another under-sized track in Boulder, that adjusted down to 5:13.00 for a 200-meter track at sea level. Alyssa Wendt will run her first 3,000-meter event of the season near the end of the meet at 1:50 p.m.

Results from today and yesterday will tentatively be available at 3 p.m. today.
