Three Provisionally Qualify at New Mexico
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - Alex Colvin, Megan Burrell and Alexa Urban each turned in NCAA Division II provisional qualifying marks to lead the University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's indoor track and field team at the New Mexico Invitational today at the Albuquerque Convention Center.
Colvin cleared 11 feet, 3 ¾ inches in the pole vault on her third vault of the day and unofficially took the lead in the RMAC performance lists. She set a new season best on her first vault at 11-1 ¾ and then took two attempts to clear the provisional height of 11-3 ¾. Colvin cleared the same height as two Division I student-athletes but placed No. 10 overall because the tiebreaker uses the number of attempts at the height to break the tie.
Urban finished third overall and first among Division II runners in the 800-meter run with 2 minutes and 16.38 seconds. She came within four-hundredths of a second of tying the all-time UCCS record in the event and improved her unadjusted time in the event by .46 seconds. The adjusted time after altitude and track size puts her with 2:15.62 and unofficially in second in the conference performance lists.
Burrell finished eighth in her heat and overall with 10:19.83 in the 3,000-meter run for the fourth-fastest time in program history. It was the fastest time for UCCS since 2007, and the altitude and track-adjusted time of 10:04.56 unofficially put her in seventh in the RMAC this season.
Melanie Diep finished fifth overall in the 800 with 2:20.02 for the third-fastest time in program history. The adjusted time of 2:19.24 puts her at fourth in the RMAC, while Amber McAfee's adjusted time from today of 2:23.61 ranks seventh in the conference.
Up Next: The Mountain Lions will take next weekend off before competing at the Colorado Mines Twilight Open on Feb. 8, in Golden, Colo.
