COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's indoor track and field will continue the indoor season on Saturday when the Mountain Lions compete at the New Mexico Invitational at the Albuquerque Convention Center.
Colvin competes in the pole vault this morning at 11:30 a.m., as one of 19 vaulters in the field. She's one of three RMAC vaulters, along with New Mexico Highlands' Isabel Garza and Cici Cordova. Colvin sits in fourth in the RMAC performance lists, one spot behind Cordova, and is less than six inches from recording a provisional qualifying mark for the national championships.
Jessica Todd runs in the fourth of six heats in the 400-meter dash at 12:50 p.m. She ran the leadoff leg in the winning 4x400-meter relay team last Saturday night at the University of Colorado Boulder and helped the team to a third-place spot in the conference performance lists. Today will be her first indoor 400-meter dash in her career.
Three Mountain Lions will run among the first two heats of the 800-meter run at 2:20 p.m. UCCS 600-yard record-holder Alexa Urban competes in the first heat while Amber McAfee and Melanie Diep compete in the second of three heats. Urban has the second-fastest time in the event in UCCS history with 2:17.61 on the same track last season.
Megan Burrell and Veronica Sandoval will compete at 7:50 p.m. tonight in the final track event of the day. Both were members of the national cross country championships team that finished No. 10 in November. The 3,000-meter run will be an event at the national indoor track and field championships in March for the first time, and will align NCAA Division II closer with the international lineup.
Both Mountain Lions will compete in the first of two heats, and Burrell will be one of three All-Americans from the national cross country championships from last fall in the heat. Adam State's Kelly Lamb and West Texas A&M Mireria Grauner will be the same heat with Burrell and Sandoval. Of the nine Division II athletes in the field, five were at the national cross country championships in Joplin.
