UCCS Wins Brechler Awards for Men's Track & Field

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The University of Colorado Colorado Springs men's indoor and outdoor track and field teams earned the inaugural Brelcher Award announced by the conference office Tuesday afternoon. The awards recognize the team with the highest grade point average for the 2012-13 academic year.

The Mountain Lion indoor track and field team finished the academic year with a 3.11 GPA while the outdoor squad finished with a 3.14. Differences in rosters and who used eligibility between the indoor and outdoor season accounted for the difference in the calculated GPA.

UCCS finished with eight All-RMAC honors between the indoor and outdoor seasons, and one conference champion with Carson Aberle in the outdoor 800-meter run. The Mountain Lions qualified for the national championships for the distance medley relay during the indoor season and with Aberle in the outdoor season.

The awards were named after Paul W. Brechler, the first RMAC Commissioner from 1976-90. He was the former athletic director at the University of Iowa and was Commissioner of the Western Athletic Conference. The awards will be presented during the 2013 RMAC Hall of Fame and Awards Banquet July 12 at the Colorado Springs Marriott.
