WICHITA FALLS, Texas - University of Colorado Colorado Springs senior sprinter Alan Ford secured a spot on the 2013 Capital One Academic All-District First Team released this morning by the College Sports Information Directors of America. Ford will advance for consideration for Academic All-America honors.

The Sports Information Directors in the South Central Region voted on the 10 first-team student-athletes. To qualify, athletes needed at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average and have completed at least two semesters at the current institution. The Academic All-America teams will be selected by the CoSIDA Board of Directors and the CoSIDA Academic All-America committee and will be announced June 26.

Ford earned two All-RMAC awards at the conference championships earlier this month and ran the second-fastest 400-meter time in UCCS history at the championships. He also has the fourth-fastest time in program history for the indoor 400 and scored at the conference meet for the Mountain Lions.

Ford has a 3.57 grade point average in game design and development and was a member of the UCCS President's Honor Roll in fall 2012 with a 4.00 semester GPA. He was an RMAC All-Academic First Team member in the outdoor season and a second team pick for the indoor season. Ford was also a U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association All-Academic selection last season.

The CoSIDA Academic All-America program was established in 1952 to recognize the best academic and athletic student-athletes. UCCS has had four student-athletes in school history earn a spot on an Academic All-America team, including Mash Shaswar in men's soccer in fall 2012.
