Buchanan Lowers Own Program Record at Beach Invite
NORWALK, Calif. - Ryan Buchanan broke his own program record in the 400-meter hurdles to lead the University of Colorado Colorado Springs at the Beach Invitational today, hosted by Long Beach State at Cerritos College.
Buchanan finished in 54.38 seconds and lowered his own UCCS record of 54.68 seconds from last season. Andre Young finished the hurdles in 55.72 seconds and placed ninth among Division II hurdlers.
Jonathan Wright, Travis Whitman, Marc Hensley and Alan Ford lowered the best UCCS 4x400-meter time this season by more than a second with 3:15.35. The Mountain Lions finished third among the nine teams that started. UCCS came within eight-tenths of a second of a provisional qualifying mark for the national championships.
The Mountain Lions will compete in one more weekend of events before the RMAC Championships in May. UCCS will send student-athletes to the Colorado Mines Pre-Conference Meet in Golden, Colo., and to the Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa.
