20 Mountain Lions to Compete at Tailwind Invite
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The University of Colorado Colorado Springs men's track and field team will be out in force this weekend as the Mountain Lions compete with less than a month before the RMAC championships at the Don Kirby Tailwind Invitational Saturday at the University of New Mexico. The first events featuring the Mountain Lions will begin at 10:50 a.m.
Twenty UCCS student-athletes will compete in nine different events throughout the day at the Great Friends of New Mexico Track and Field Stadium in Albuquerque. Temperatures are expected to reach the upper 70s with partly cloudy skies. UCCS will be one of five RMAC teams with runners, along with Adams State, Colorado Mesa and Western State.
Sam Feldotto, the third-fastest steeplechaser in the RMAC this season after last weekend's performance at Colorado Mines, will open the meet for the Mountain Lions with David Marino at 10:50 a.m. The field will include two runners who competed as last year's Division II national championships.
Jonathan Wright, who has the fastest time in the conference in the 400-meter dash, will lead six Mountain Lions in the event at 1:55 p.m. Nathan Weeks, Travis Whitman, Marc Hensley, Sam Marsh and Alan Ford will be five of the eight sprinters in the second of the three heats.
Carson Aberle and Anthony Davis, two of the five fastest 800-meter runners in the RMAC this season, will also lead a deep UCCS field in the event at 3:15 p.m. Aberle ran an altitude-adjusted time of 1:52.70 at the season-opening Jerry Quiller Classic and within two-tenths of a second of a provisional qualifying time for the national championships. Davis ran an adjusted 1:54.92 last weekend at Colorado Mines.
Three of the four runners from last weekend's conference-leading 4x400-meter relay team will make up one of the two teams at 5:30 p.m. to close out the weekend. Write, Hensley and Ford will be joined by Andre Young on one team, while Ryan Buchanan, Aberle, Davis and Marsh compete on the second team.
Live results will be provided throughout the meet through Track Timing and Data Management.
