BOULDER, Colo. - The University of Colorado Colorado Springs men's outdoor track and field team won the 4x400-meter relay as the Mountain Lions opened the 2013 outdoor season today at the Jerry Quiller Classic at the University of Colorado Boulder.

The team of Jonathan Wright, Ryan Buchanan, Nathan Weeks and Alan Ford ran three minutes and 20.41 seconds and defeated the top Air Force team in the meet by nearly three seconds. The UCCS "B" team of Sam Marsh, Chris Ullom, Marc Hensley and Andre Young finished third in the event with 3:27.96.

Carson Aberle finished second in the 800-meter run with an adjusted time of 1:52.70, and came within two-tenths of a second of the provisional qualifying time for the national championships. His time unofficially ranks third in Division II this season, based on the times that have been reported through the Track and Field Resort Reporting System.

Ullom finished fourth in his heat and No. 12 overall with 2:01.72, and Justin Bills won his heat by more than two seconds but placed No. 19 overall with 2:07.31 in his first collegiate track and field race.

Ford paced the Mountain Lions in the open 400-meter dash with 50.05 seconds and finished sixth overall out of the 28 runners who started. He was the top Division II sprinter in his heat, and second overall. Hensley finished fifth in the same heat with 50.74 to finish in the top 10 for UCCS.

Young won his heat in 50.79 seconds and by a quarter-second against his nearest competitor.

UCCS will be in action again next weekend in the Colorado State-Pueblo Open on March 22-23 at the Neta and Eddie DeRose ThunderBowl.
