Whitman Qualifies for 400 Finals After Day 1 at RMAC
SPEARFISH, S.D. - Travis Whitman qualified for the finals in the 400-meter dash as the University of Colorado Colorado Springs earned five points in the opening day of the 2013 RMAC Indoor Track and Field Championships today at Black Hills State.
Whitman won his heat and ran 50.84 seconds to qualify for tomorrow's final at 11:55 a.m. The Mountain Lions had three of the top 10 sprinters in the preliminaries, with Alan Ford in ninth and Jonathan Wright in No. 10. Wright won his heat in 51.25 seconds.
The distance medley relay of Carson Aberle, Andre Young, Chris Ullom and Matt Winfrey finished sixth in 10:43.71 to score three points for the Mountain Lions. Mike English finished seventh in the 5,000-meter run with 15:21.78 and missed all-conference honors by one spot to score the other two points for UCCS after day one.
Action resumes Saturday morning with the start of the track events. The championships are scheduled to complete by 3:30 p.m. at the Young Center at Black Hills State.
