Mountain Lions Remain Ninth in Regional Index
NEW ORLEANS - Two program records last weekend in the distance medley relay and the 3,000-meter run led to an increase of five points in the computer-based rankings as the University of Colorado Colorado Springs men's indoor track and field team came in at ninth in the new U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association South Central Regional Team Index.
The Mountain Lion distance medley relay team of Kyle McCloskey, Travis Whitman, Anthony Davis and Mike English ran an altitude and track-adjusted time of 9 minutes and 53.34 seconds last Friday night at the Joe Davies Open at Colorado Mines. The four set the UCCS record and are ranked sixth in the national performance lists.
Emilio Trujillo used his first meet of the indoor season to break the program record in the 3,000-meter run last Saturday afternoon. He ran an adjusted time of 8:17.49 to win the event and is ranked No. 16 in the national performance lists.
Jonathan Wright is ranked fifth in the region in the 400-meter dash and as a member of the 4x400-meter relay. He's second in the RMAC with an adjusted time of 49.51 seconds, and the relay team is also fifth in the conference with a time of 3:20.16. Wright ran the relay along with Whitman, Sam Marsh and Nathan Weeks.
Whtiman ranks seventh in the region in the 400-meter dash, while Carson Aberle ranks eighth in the region in the 800-meter run.
The regional rankings are calculated in a way to show the potential scores if regional championships were held. Only the top eight performances in the region in each event are scored. The South Central Region includes teams from the RMAC, Lone Star Conference and Heartland Conference.
