Trujillo Breaks 3K Record, Qualifies for Nationals at Davies Open
GOLDEN, Colo. - Emilio Trujillo ran a program record time and provisionally qualified in the 3,000-meter run for the NCAA Division II Indoor Track and Field Championships to lead the University of Colorado Colorado Springs on the second day of the Joe Davies Open at Colorado School of Mines.
Trujillo won by more than eight seconds and with 8:41.59, which will convert for altitude and track adjustments to approximately 8:17. The time will unofficially rank seventh in the RMAC and No. 17 in the national performance lists, but official adjustments will be made when the results are entered by Colorado Mines into the Track and Field Results Reporting System.
Jonathan Wright finished second in the 400-meter dash with 50.93 seconds, which would adjust down to approximately 49.72 seconds. He moved down to second in the RMAC performance lists, behind Adams State's Derek Brown who ran a time that will altitude adjust to approximately 49.31 seconds.
Marc Hensley finished the 400-meter dash in 51.54 seconds to finish fourth overall, and improved his adjusted time to approximately 50.34 seconds and from No. 15 to No. 10 in the RMAC performance lists. Alan Ford tied for fifth with 51.78 to improve his season best by more than three seconds.
Chad Liscar ran 23.87 seconds and finished third in the 200-meter dash. He finished second in his heat behind Joey Scott from Division I Northern Colorado by four-hundredths of a second.
Up Next: UCCS travels to Spearfish, S.D., next weekend for the 2013 RMAC Indoor Track and Field Championships. The championships will begin on the morning of Feb. 22 at the Young Center.
