Mountain Lions Look to Keep Up Success on Day 2 at Mines

By Jared Verner published February 16, 2013

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - A day after the University of Colorado Colorado Springs men's indoor track and field team broke the program record in the distance medley and recorded the fifth-fastest time in Division II, the Mountain Lions will be back on the track for the remaining events of the Joe Davies Open at Colorado Mines. The first events involving UCCS student-athletes begin at 11:35 a.m. in Steinhauer Fieldhouse.

Chad Liscar leads three Mountain Lions in the 60-meter dash at 11:35 a.m. in a field of more than 40 sprinters. Liscar is ranked No. 14 in the RMAC performance lists with one weekend left before the conference championships. He'll be joined by Jonathan Wright and Chris Myers in the event.

Myers and Liscar will double in the 200-meter dash at 1:35 p.m., while Wright will double in the 400-meter dash at 12:30 p.m. Wright has the fasted time in the RMAC this season at 49.51 seconds, which is just more than a quarter-second away from the national provisional qualifying mark. Marc Hensley, Ryan Buchanan, Alan Ford and Andre Young will join Wright in the 400-meter dash.

Sam Feldotto and Matt Winfrey will run the first Mountain Lion mile of the season at noon. If both ran their personal best time in the event, both set in the 2012 indoor season, they would rank in the top 25 of the RMAC performance lists. The conference has 14 student-athletes who have reached the national provisional qualifying mark this season in the mile.

Kyle McCloskey and Anthony Davis, who both ran on the record-setting distance medley relay last night, will join Chris Ullom in the 800-meter run at 1:05 p.m. Davis and McCloskey both rank in the top 10 of the conference performance lists.

Mike English, also a member of the distance medley relay, will run with Emilio Trujillo in the 3,000-meter run to close out the day for the Mountain Lions at 2:05 p.m. Twenty-three runners are scheduled to take the starting line this afternoon, with 18 of those runners from RMAC teams.
