By Jared Verner published February 9, 2013

GOLDEN, Colo. - Mike English won the 5,000-meter run, Chad Liscar won the 200-meter dash, and Jonathan Wright, Travis Whitman, Marc Hensley and Ryan Buchanan won the 4x400-meter relay as the University of Colorado Colorado Springs wrapped up the Colorado Mines Twilight Collegiate Open at Steinhauer Fieldhouse.

English won the 5,000-meter run last night by more than 15 seconds and was the top collegiate runners by more than 25 seconds with an unadjusted time of 15 minutes and 36.57 seconds. He's a returning All-RMAC performer, where he won his heat of the 5K run at the championships by nearly seven seconds.

Chad Liscar won the 200-meter dash in 23.80 seconds, and beat out Metro State's Blake Williams by nearly two-tenths of a second in the same heat. Liscar was also one of five collegiate runners to qualify for the 11-person field for the 60-meter dash and ran a season-best 7.15 seconds in the preliminaries.

The top UCCS relay team of Wright, Whitman, Hensley and Buchanan finished in 3:25.53, more than four seconds ahead of the top Colorado Mines team, and six seconds ahead of the top Metro State team. Whitman was also on the distance medley relay team with Kyle McCloskey, Anthony Davis and Carson Aberle that finished second on Friday night.

Hensley, Buchanan and Wright finished third through fifth, respectively, in the 400-meter dash and as three of the top four collegiate placers. Davis finished second in the 800-meter run and less than a second behind the winner.

Altitude and track size conversions were still pending with the Track and Field Result Reporting System, which will provide a clearer picture of national and conference standings for each event.

Up Next: The Mountain Lions will be back in action at the Steinhauer Fieldhouse next Saturday for the Joe Davis Open.
