COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The University of Colorado Colorado Springs will field a distance medley relay team and 5,000-meter runners for the first time this season as the Mountain Lions compete in the first day of the Colorado Mines Twilight Collegiate Open on Friday night. The first events with UCCS events will begin at 6:50 p.m., at Steinhauer Fieldhouse in Golden, Colo.

The distance medley relay of Kyle McCloskey, Travis Whitman, Anthony Davis and Carson Aberle is one of three teams scheduled to compete on Friday night. Aberle was on the DMR team that ran a provisional qualifying time in last season's Twilight Open. He also has the fourth-fastest 800-meter time in the conference this season, ahead of McCloskey's eighth-ranked time and Davis' ninth-ranked time.

Mike English and Emilio Trujillo will run the first indoor 5Ks for UCCS this season at 7:25 p.m. English's best 5,000-meter run in his career has been during the indoor season, and Friday night will be his first indoor 5K since last season's RMAC championships. He earned All-RMAC honors in the event last season with an unadjusted 15:01.37 on the undersized track at Chadron State. Trujillo is making his first appearance of the indoor season after leading the Mountain Lions in every cross country race last fall.

UCCS is one of five RMAC teams scheduled to compete at the Mines Twilight this weekend. The Mountain Lions are ranked No. 11 in the latest U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association South Central Regional Team Index.
