COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Seven University of Colorado Colorado Springs indoor track and field runners will be in action tonight in the first day of the New Mexico Invitational in Albuquerque, N.M. The Mountain Lions will compete in the 200-meter and 400-meter dashes and the 3,000-meter run tonight at the Albuquerque Convention Center.
The fourth and fifth heats of the 400-meter dash will be the first track events tonight, and will feature Sam Marsh, Travis Whitman and Nathan Weeks in the fourth heat. Whitman cut more than two-tenths of a second off his indoor 400-meter time from his freshman to sophomore year, and begins his junior season after helping the Mountain Lions to a first-second finish in the 4x400-meter relay last weekend in Boulder, Colo.
Marsh, Whitman and Weeks will double their events tonight in the 200-meter dash at 6:45 p.m., where Jon Wright will join the sprinters for the event. Wright ran his fastest indoor 200-meter time of last season on the same track last season during the New Mexico Classic.
Mike English, Sam Feldotto and Matt Winfrey will wrap up the night with the 3,000-meter. English and Feldotto will compete in the first heat, while Winfrey will compete in the second heat. It will be the first competition for each of them since they led the UCCS cross country team to a No. 11 finish at the national championships in November.
