Ford, 4x400 Team Claim Wins in Boulder
BOULDER, Colo. - Alan Ford won the 600-yard run with one minute, 15.83 seconds and the fourth-fastest time in University of Colorado Colorado Springs men's indoor track and field history to lead the individual performances for the Mountain Lions today at the University of Colorado Boulder Potts Invitational. The 4x400-meter relay teams also finished first and second, ahead of the two teams from Colorado Mines.
The Mountain Lions placed four in the top five of the overall results in the 600-yard run, and the top four results among collegiate runners. Anthony Davis finished in 1:16.04 and won his heat, and finished ahead of Jonathan Wright in the same heat. Wright and Davis were previously ranked in the UCCS record charts and didn't improve their times today, which allowed Carson Aberle to move into fifth in program history with his 1:16.21 from the second heat of the event.
In the 4x400-meter relays teams finished in 3:28.97 and 3:30.87, respectively, to finished as the top two teams in the event. Colorado Mines' "A" team ran in the same heat as the UCCS teams, and finished more than six seconds behind the second Mountain Lion team. Travis Whitman ran the fastest leg among the three different teams entered.
The top team's time was adjusted down to 3:26.11, after altitude and track size were calculated into the performance, to put the time second in the RMAC this season. Jonathan Wright, Sam Marsh, Ryan Buchanan and Chris Ullom turned in the performance for UCCS.
Chad Liscar finished seventh among collegiate sprinters and second among Division II sprinters with 7.28 seconds in the 60-meter dash to open his season. He also ran the leadoff leg of the second 4x400-meter relay team that turned in the 3:30.87 time, along with Travis Whitman, Nathan Weeks and Chris Myers.
Up Next: UCCS continues the indoor season next weekend at the New Mexico Invitational in Albuquerque, N.M. The Mountain Lions will be competing in the same facility that will host the 2013 U.S.A. Indoor Track and Field Championships later this year.
