Four Mountain Lion Men Earn Scholar-Athlete Honors
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - UC-Colorado Springs student-athletes Matt Cameron, Mike English, Alan Ford and Jonathan Wright earned Scholar-Athlete honors from the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association late last week. The Mountain Lion quartet were among the 164 NCAA Division II student-athletes to earn the honor.
The four earned the honor with a 3.25 cumulative grade point average and by achieving a provisional or automatic qualifying mark in either the indoor or outdoor season.
Cameron competed at the NCAA Division II Indoor Track and Field Championships in March in the 800-meter run and had the best time for the Mountain Lions in the spring for the 1,500-meter run. He earned USTFCCCA All-Central Region honors during the indoor season.
English earned All-RMAC honors in the indoor 5,000-meter run and scored at the outdoor conference championships. He was an RMAC Indoor Second Team All-Academic selection and a member of the outdoor Honor Roll. English was also an all-academic second team selection for the RMAC in the cross country season.
Ford was a member of the RMAC Honor Rolls for both indoor and outdoor track and field. He ran on the Mountain Lion 4x400-meter relay team that posted an altitude and track-adjusted time of 10 minutes, 7.23 seconds for the No. 25 best mark in Division II last season.
Wright was the lead-off runner for the Mountain Lions' 4x400-meter relay team that won the RMAC outdoor championship in May, and ran his best 400-meter time of the season in a runner-up performance at the same meet. He also earned All-RMAC honors for the indoor 400-meter dash and All-Central Region honors from the USTFCCCA in both the indoor and outdoor seasons.
