UCCS track & field opens season at Air Force Blue & Silver Open
COLORADO SPRINGS - The men's 4 X 440 relay team knocked off Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference rivals Western State and Mesa State as the Mountain Lions opened their indoor track season Saturday at the Air Force Blue and Silver Open at the Cadet Fieldhouse.
The quartet of Jonathan Wright, Chad Liscar, Anthony Davis and Alan Ford posted a time of 3 minutes, 24.41 seconds, less than four second behind Abilene Christian and Air Force.
Davis and Wright took fourth and fifth respectively in a 500-meter run field that had 26 runners, 10 of which are from NCAA Division I schools. Liscar, meanwhile, had top-15 finishes in both the 60- and 300-meter dashes.
UCCS had six competitors in the 1,000-meter run as Matt Winfrey, Carson Aberle and Kyle McCloskey took seventh, eighth and ninth respectively.
In the field events, Seth Martin cleared 6 feet, 6.75 inches to take fifth in a 16-athlete field in the high jump. Robert McDougal led four Mountain Lions in the long jump with a 10th-place finish.
Ashley Benfield highlighted the UCCS women's team by taking third in the 1,000-meter run. Her time of 3:08.37 was bettered only by a pair of Air Force runners. Sara Kettelkamp, Kim Fitzgerald and Amber McAfee took ninth, 10th and 12th in the same race.
The women's 4 X 440 relay took fourth with a time of 4:10.16, beating New Mexico Highlands and Colorado Mesa.
The women's field events were highlighted by seventh-place finishes by both Erika Cushnie in the high jump and Christy Carmody in the pole vault and an eighth-place mark by Jessica Todd.

|May 16, 2012||Four Mountain Lions named to the 2012 DII USTFCCCA Outdoor Track & Field All-Region Teams||Colorado Springs, CO: The USTFCCCA Outdoor Track & Field 2012 All-Region Teams were announced today and that included four Mountain Lions receiving five honors. The RMAC Champion men's 4x400 team were named All-Region and those individuals included Anthony Davis, Mark Hensley, Travis Whitman, and Jonathan Wright. Jonathan Wright also received All-Region honors for his individual effort in the 400 meter dash. Women's Pole Vaulter Alex Colvin, who will be competing next week at the NCAA Division II National Championships in Pueblo, CO, was also named All-Region.|
