Youth has been served on the UCCS track team
The performer of the night is junior college transfer Colby Elliott. He competed in five events, broke two individual school records and was a member of tonight's school record 4x400 meter relay team. Elliott's night went as follows; fourth in the 60 meter hurdles with a school record 8.67 time, winner in the 300 meter with a school record time of 35.61, 12th in the high jump with a mark of 1.74 meters and 12th in the long jump with a mark of 6.17 meters. This guy is going to be something really special for UCCS track and field.
The men's A 4x400 meter with a CSM Alumni Extravaganza with a school record time of 3:22.51. The four members were Jonathon Wright, Matt Winfrey, Jon Christian and Colby Elliott. The 4x400 meter relay ran almost three seconds faster today then the UCCS 4x400 meter indoor Conference Championship team did last year. This year's 4x400 relay has the potential to achieve an NCAA qualifying relay time.
Lauren Graham improved her school record in the pole vault with a mark of 3.80 meters. Graham's mark is an NCAA provisional qualifier for the Indoor Track and Field National Championship in Albuquerque, MN. Last year she missed the cut for the Indoor National Championship pole vault field by three centimeters. Pretty much the only things Lauren Graham has not done while pole vaulting in a Mountain Lion uniform is clear an NCAA automatic qualifier mark and win an individual event National Championship. Come watch her potentially make it happen this track season.
Anthony Cardinale started close to where he finished last May with an outdoor Conference Championship long jump. Tonight Cardinale hit a long jump mark of 6.69 meters and a new school record.
Anthony Davis broke the school record in the men's 600 meter with a time of 1:23.20.
Ashley Benfield broke the school record in the women's 600 meter with a time of 1:41.14. Benfield also ran the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 10.01.
Alexa Urban broke the school record in the women's 300 meter with a time of 42.60. Urban also ran the 60 meter with an 8.48 time.
Coach Mark Misch, "We only competed about 60% of our people today. We have a lot of young talented underclassmen. We are also at a place that we have never been competitively as a UCCS track team before".
