Hopkins and Watson complete thier multi-event competitions in Pueblo
Brien Hopkins and Ally Watson represented the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs at the CSU-Pueblo Multi-Event Invitational. Brien Hopkins placed third in the decathlon with 5,682 points. Ally Watson scored 2,605 points in her first ever heptathlon.
The decathlon consists of ten events contested over a two day period. The 100 meter, long jump, shot put, high jump and 400 meter on the first day and the 110 meter hurdles, discus, pole vault, javelin and 1500 meter on day two. Jay Petsch, of Wyoming won the CSU-Pueblo decathlon with a score of 6,884 points.
The individual events for Hopkins came out as follows:
1) Eighth in the 100 meter, time of 12.29
2) Third in the long jump, mark of 5.94 meter
3) Sixth in the shot put, mark of 10.44 meter
4) Third in the high jump, mark of 1.89 meter
5) Fourth in the 400 meter, time of 53.20
6) Fourth in the 110 meter hurdles, time of 16.80
7) Seventh in the discus, mark of 26.01 meter
8) Fifth in the pole vault, mark of 3.75 meter
9) Fifth in the javelin, mark of 38.34 meter
10) First in the 1500 meter, time of 4:49.06
The heptathlon consists of seven events, also contested over a two day period. The 100 meter hurdles, high jump, shot put and 200 meter on the first day and the long jump, javelin and 800 meter on day two. Jena Isaacson from Nebraska-Kearney won the CSU-Pueblo heptathlon with a score of 4467 points.
The individual events for Watson came out as follows:
1) 11th in the 100 meter hurdles, time of 17.63
2) Ninth in the high jump, mark of 1.43 meter
3) 16th in the shot put, mark of 5.22 meter
4) 15th in the 200 meter, time of 29.17
5) 14th in the long jump, mark of 4.15 meter
6) foul, no mark in the javelin
7) 11th in the 800 meter, time of 2:53.60
A congratulations, go out to all who completed the grueling two day multi-event competition. The next multi-event competition will be during the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Championship, May 9-11, in Pueblo.
