May 19, 2010Two Mountain Lions Qualify for Track National ChampionshipsThe 2010 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field National Championships will have two competitors for the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs. Steven Gomez (So) has qualified in the men's high jump and Lauren Graham (Fr) qualified in the women's pole vault. Both UCCS athletes are in position to potentially win their individual event National Title. Johnson C. Smith is the 2010 host and the National Championship Meet will be contested at Irwin Belk Complex in Charlotte, N.C.
May 19, 2010Shaver, Hopkins Named All-AcademicTwo members of the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs' men's track team were named to the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference's all-academic teams, the conference announced Wednesday. Jason Shaver was named second-team all-academic while Brien Hopkins was named to the all-academic honor roll.

April 24, 2010Severe Wind Advisory in EffectThe wind was the story of the day at the Jack Christiansen Invitational, hosted by Colorado State University. It caused delays, issues and generally made circumstances miserable. It was a much different environment then the wind storm in Greeley three weeks ago. At least in Greeley some good competitive performances were possible. Today, in Fort Collins, was just all about competing well against the field.

April 17, 2010Gomez Takes Flight Amongst Many UCCS Season and Personal BestsSteven Gomez cleared 2.15 meter in the men's high jump at the Colorado State-Pueblo Invitational. The temperature was far from ideal, at about 50 degrees , still Gomez took advantage during the low wind period of Saturday afternoon. He nearly cleared 2.19 meters, but he will have a couple more cracks at that height as Gomez has automatically advanced to NCAA D-II Outdoor Track and Field National Championship in Charlotte N.C., May 27-29.
April 16, 2010Hopkins and Watson complete thier multi-event competitions in PuebloBrien Hopkins and Ally Watson represented the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs at the CSU-Pueblo Multi-Event Invitational. Brien Hopkins placed third in the decathlon with 5,682 points. Ally Watson scored 2,605 points in her first ever heptathlon.
April 15, 2010Big Competition in KansasSix runners from the University of Colorado-Colorado participated in the 83rd Kansas Relays in Lawrence, Kansas. The meet consists of many NCAA Division-I runners and some professionals and it is one of the best track meets in the entire United States Midwest region. Most of the Mountain Lion participants ran season best, a few by large amounts of time.
March 28, 2010The Outdoor Season Started-FinallyThe Mountain Lions finally took to the track, outdoors Sunday in Pueblo. The CSU-Pueblo Open was a track meet that was suppose to be the Colorado Mines Open and contested Saturday, but the competition in Golden was cancelled due to weather and reschedule to Pueblo a day later. So we had a rare local collegiate track meet on a Sunday, but it was better then no track meet for the second week in a row.
March 25, 2010Snow forces cancellation of Mines meet, UCCS will compete in Pueblo insteadThe series of spring snowstorms that has created havoc among Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference sports schedules chalked up another victim when the Colorado School of Mines Open Track & Field Meet was canceled. UCCS, which was scheduled to compete at the Mines meet, will now compete at the CSU-Pueblo Open, which was added to replace the Mines meet.
March 12, 2010Gomez takes ninth at nationalsSteven Gomez was the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs track team's lone participant at the 2010 Indoor Track and Field National Championship in Albuquerque, N.M. Gomez cleared the high jump opening height of 2.01 meters easily. He then failed to clear the second height of 2.06 meter for a ninth-place finish.
March 9, 2010National Championship QualifierSteven Gomez (sophomore), is the lone UCCS qualifier into the 2010 NCAA D-II Indoor Track and Field National Championship. Gomez comes into the National Championship as the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference high jump indoor conference champion. Gomez is seeded as the #4 qualifier in the high jump with his mark of 2.14 meter which is about 7 feet and a quarter inch. The number 1 seed is Corey Thomas (freshman) out of Stonehill and the northeast region with his qualifying mark of 2.19 meter. The difference between Gomez and Thomas of 0.05 meter equates about two inches.

February 19, 2010Golden Tune UpThe University of Colorado-Colorado Springs went to Golden, Colorado for a final tune up meet before the conference indoor championship. Generally, the field was not very strong. Yet, there were a couple exceptional marks.

Both the men's distance medley and 4x400 relay won their respective heats. Those relays were apart of a very productive event."I was very pleased with how the team competed", said coach Mark Misch "it was a great meet and we had solid races."
