Mountain Lions Face All Divisions at University of Colorado Invitational
BOULDER - Deep fields and tough competition from every division made for good performances all around as the Mountain Lions returned to Boulder for the second time in the outdoor season for the University of Colorado Invitational.
The high jump was dominated primarily by Division II competitors, and the RMAC was well represented as the trio of Steve Gomez, Brian Hopkins and Rick Rimbert, who finished second, fifth, and eighth respectively, with Gomez tying with CU's Jake Timmons for second, and Hopkins tying with Alex Von Hagen, also from CU, for fifth. Rimbert also took ninth in the men's long jump in 6.14 meters while Ailena McDonald placed 14th in 4.56 meters on the women's side.
Elsewhere in the field, Trevor Nau had a fifth-place finish in the men's javelin with a throw of 47.20 meters. Preston Williams and Rimbert took 11th and 13th respectively behind Nau.
Nau also took 26th in the hammer throw while Williams took 33rd along with 21st in the men's discus.
Jen Callan claimed 18th in the womens' javelin, 14th in the women's hammer throw, and 11th in the discus.
Hopkins moved on to later place 7th in the 110 meter hurdles, and then 14th in the 400 meter hurdles and was followed by Josh Jones in 20th.
Freshman David Mueller continued on his streak of solid runs in the 400 meter dash as he finished 5th in a tough field in 49.25. Jason Shaver followed in 16th.
Kylie Honigford had an 8th place finish on the women's side of the 400 meter dash with her 59.81 to win her heat as the top division two competitor in the field. Dawn Eckert placed 14th and Jessica Luna placed 24th.
Honigford, along with Eckert, Barry, and Falsetto took the women's 4x400 meter relay to its fifth-place finish in 4:02.62.
In the men's 800, Alex Vazquez took 5th in the 32-man field in 1:54.02. Accompanying Vazquez was Anthony Davis in 18th.
In the women's 800, Kelsey Barry took a fifth place finish in 2:19.31 and was followed closely by Tracey Falsetto's ninth place with 2:22.96.
Vazquez and Mueller later teamed with Shaver and Chris Reynolds to take the men's 4x400 relay to a fifth place berth in 3:27.96.
Shaver, along with Rimbert, Hopkins and Mueller also took the men's 4x100 meter relay to a fourth place finish in a time of 44.10.
The women's 4x100 meter relay of Eckert, Honigford, McDonald and Jenny Hunt also finished fourth in a time of 50.76.
Brad Kachigan ran his debut steeplechase as he placed third in 10:49.56.
Kait Frier had her first sub-5 minute run in the 1500 meters as she placed 11th in a personal best 4:59.10.
Alex Tiernan was the top Mountain Lion in an enormous field of the men's 1500. Taking 14thin 4:04.02, he was followed by Joel Kienitz in 33rd, Ted Schulz in 38th, and Allen Browne in 48th.
Luna also placed 21st in the women's 200 meter dash while Vy Nguyen took 28th in the men's 200 and 21st in the men's 100 meter dash.
