UCCS high jumper Gomez named RMAC field athlete of the week
University of Colorado at Colorado Springs high jumper Steven Gomez was named the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference men's field athlete of the week, the conference announced Wednesday.
Gomez earned a provisional qualifying mark for nationals by clearing 2.06 meters at the CU Potts Invitational, which was held Friday and Saturday in Boulder. The jump was also a personal best for the freshman from Alexandria, Va.
The jump is currently the eighth best in Division II so far this season and set a new UCCS school record.
It was Gomez's second straight high-jump victory, having also won the event at the Air Force All-Comers meet on Jan. 16. He has increased his mark in each of this season's three events.
