Payne named RMAC indoor track preseason athlete of the year

University of Colorado at Colorado Springs senior Shannon Payne was named the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Women's Indoor Track Preseason Athlete of the Year, the conference announced Wednesday.

Kelli Dring of Nebraska-Kearney was named the women's preseason field athlete of the year, while Aaron Braun of Adams State and Dane Tobey of Nebraska-Kearney were named the men's preseason indoor track & field athletes of the year respectively.

Payne, a senior from Franktown, Colo., won both the RMAC and the Central Region cross country individual championships during November. She's expected to compete in the 3,000- and 5,000-meter run this season in indoor track.

Payne and her UCCS teammates were picked to finish sixth in the 10-team RMAC by conference track & field coaches. The UCCS men's team was picked to finish seventh.
