KU Relays Wind Down on Saturday Afternoon

By Donna Young published April 19, 2008

With four days of competition in the books, the KU Relays ended, and the UCCS track team can take a breather. The three unusual races that they competed in today were more for practice and training for upcoming events.

"We only had three races today," said head coach Mark Misch. "Overall, we had a solid few days, and we had a lot of positives."

The women competed in the 1600 sprint medley (made up of 200 meter, 200 meter, 400 meter, and 800 meter runs) finishing in sixth place. Josienne Heer, Amanda Stoesz, Kelsey Barry, and Melissa McKinley finished the medley with a time of 4:22.37.

"The women had a good run; they did decent in their heat," Misch said. "We had distance kids getting some training in."

Kaitlin Frier, Vivian Reed, Tracy Falsetto, and Paige Hall competed in the 4x880 yard relay. They finished the race with a time of 10:22.08.

"We are working through injuries and trying to get healthy," Misch said. "We want to build on the positives and keep going."

On the men's side, William Pendarvis, Almir Hodzic, Jason Shaver, and Alex Vazquez competed in the 1600 sprint medley. The relay team finished with a time of 3:36.92.

"We just ran out of gas this morning," Misch said. "Hodzic has an ear infection; it has been a long few days."

While most of the track team was at the KU Relays, a few members went to Fort Collins to take part in the Ram Open.

Jennifer Callan competed in the shot put, the discus throw, and the javelin throw. In the shot put she finished with a distance of 10.31 meters, in the discus she had a distance of 28.75, and in the javelin had a distance of 20.06.

In the men's 100-meter dash, Vy Nguyen ran a time of 12.20. Blake Hansen competed in the shot put finishing with a distance of 11.16 meters.

Trevor Nau competed in the javelin throw and finished with a distance of 45.69 meters. Also, in the event was Preston Williams finishing with a distance of 35.73. Williams also threw for a distance of 32.14 in the discus throw.
