Vazquez, Pinter Lead the Way at Emporia State Twilight Qualifier
EMPORIA, Kan. - Alex Vazquez took second place in the men's 800-meter run to lead the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs track & field team Saturday at the Emporia State Twilight Qualifier, the Mountain Lions' final tuneup before nationals.
Vazquez covered the distance in 1 minute, 55.79 seconds, just 1.61 seconds off earning a provisional qualifying time for nationals despite running in stormy conditions.
Dan Pinter and Alex Tiernan took third and fourth respectively in the 1,500-meter run, with Pinter clocking in at 4:09.30 and Tiernan just .2 second behind. Teammate Chris Reynolds took seventh in the same event.
Three Mountain Lions competed in the men's 400-meter dash, with Almir Hodzic, William Pendarvis and Jason Shaver finishing eighth, ninth and 11th.
Two members of the UCCS women's team made the trip to Kansas as Melissa McKinley took seventh in the 1,500 meters and Kelsey Barry finished eighth in the 800.
