UCCS Uses Colorado College Invitational to Brush Up
The Colorado College Invitational ended up becoming a meet between The University of Colorado at Colorado Springs and Colorado College. It was not an official dual team-scored event, but UCCS used the meet to warm up for the upcoming Kansas University Relays.
"Overall, the meet served its purpose as a tune-up for the KU Relays this week," said UCCS coach Mark Misch. "Most of our people start competing on Thursday evening.
For the meet, a new men's 4x400 meter relay team was formed. Not the usual relay team, Dan Pinter, Dustin Simeons, Chris Reynolds, and Alex Tiernan competed in the event.
The relay team placed second with a time of 3 minutes 33.56 seconds. They finished ahead of four other relay teams including two unattached teams.
"We just ran a ‘distance man's' 4x4 relay for speed work," Misch said. "Both Reynolds and Tiernan really had good legs on it."
Tiernan also competed in the 800-meter run and placed first with a time of 2:00.48. Tiernan placed ahead of ten other competitors.
Reynolds competed in the 400-meter dash and finished with a time of 52.47, seconds behind fellow teammate Alex Vazquez. Vazquez won the event with a time of 50.30.
"I thought for us that Alex Tiernan and Chris Reynolds had really good days," Misch said.
Also in the 800, Pinter placed second with a time of 2:01.79. Joel Kienitz finished with a time of 2:03.68, Simeons had a time of 2:06.96 and Allen Browne finished at 2:15.33.
William Pendarvis won the 200-meter dash ahead of six other runners. His finishing time was 23:00. He also placed second in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.64.
Competing in the 200 with Pendarvis were Almir Hodzic who finished second with a time of 23.21, and Jason Shaver who placed third with a time of 23.48. Carl Lum finished with a time of 23.98, and Vy Nguyen had a time of 25.23.
In the 100-meter dash, also with Pendarvis, were Shaver who placed third with a time of 11.74, Lum who finished with a time of 12.23, and Nguyen at 12.51.
Trevor Nau won the javelin throw with a final distance of 45.40 meters. Behind him were teammates Preston Williams, Lum, and Blake Hansen. Williams had a distance of 37.40, Lum finished at 37.10, and Hansen at 36.60.
Hansen won the shot put with a distance of 11.02, and Lum finished with a distance of 8.90. Preston Williams won the discus throw with a distance of 32.56, and Lum finished with a distance of 21.67.
Lum also competed in the long jump and finished with a distance of 5.19. In the pole vault, he finished at a height of 2.76, and he finished the high jump at a height of 5'8".
The Mountain Lions will next compete in the KU Relays from April 14-19.
