By Matt Sandstead published February 9, 2008

The UCCS men's and women's 4x440 relay teams set new school records at the Don Barrett Air Force Invitational Saturday, records that were previously set just one week prior.

The Men's 4x440 team of William Pendarvis, Almir Hodzic, Alex Vazquez, and Jason Shaver set the school record for the event with a time of 3 minutes, 27.39 seconds. The team beat the record they had previously set just one week ago at the Air Force Invitional.

Pendarvis also competed in the 200-meter dash and set a new school record with a time of 22.92 seconds and finished 14th overall.

The Mountain Lion women's 4x440 team of Jessica Hudson, Kelsey Barry, Melissa McKinley, and Amanda Stoesz repeated the feat breaking their own record set one week ago finshing with a time of 4:08.17 and surpassing the old mark by .28 seconds.

In the 200-meter dash, Hudson finished with a time of 27.43 in 29th, while Barry finished in 35th with a time of 27.61.

"Every meet that we run at this stage in the season has a different purpose," said head coach Mark Misch. "We didn't run any of our athletes in their main event, but next week at Mines, we'll put together some relays and do some things to help go after provisional national qualifying times."

Vazquez, who finished fifth in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:55.43, missed the national qualifying time by just 0.2 seconds.

"Vazquez did a great job in his first 800 of the season and just missed the NCAA qualifying time," said Misch.

The Mountain Lions' next competition is the CSM All-Comers meet in Golden, CO on Feb. 16.
